Default Buying Guild Wars

Hey everyone.

I've been thinking of buying guild wars for the HoM rewards and to brush up on the lore in preparation of GW2, but I don't really know what copy to get.
Do you only need EoTN for this or do you need prophecies + factions + nightfall aswell?

I was thinking of getting this;

http://www.shopto.net/PC/VIDEO%20GAM...er%20Pack.html

and then buying EoTN, but does anyone know if the code from EoTN will override the 14 day limit on the other 3 games, letting me play them past that trial time?

Thanks

No, it won't override the 14-day trial that that shop is, for some reason, charging you for. You still have to buy the actual games.

If you wish to try out the game before purchasing, there is a free trial of just the first campaign, Prophecies, available here. Prophecies is generally considered the one with the gentlest learning curve to gradually introduce you to the game mechanics. Unless you are set on trying out a ritualist/assassin/dervish/paragon right out of the gate, the free trial is the best option rather than buying a 14-day trial from a retailer.

There are three campaigns -- Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall. EotN is an expansion and not a stand-alone campaign. You'll need to purchase EotN in addition to whichever full campaign(s) you choose for access to the HoM.

There is also stickied topic on this forum board for new players on a budget uncertain as to which campaign to buy.

If you asked a few years ago, I'd tell you to surely buy GW. But it's too late by now. GW2 is comming out soon and it will cause too many people leave GW1 that it will harldy be MMO. You won't get much points for HoM in 2-3 months.

With determination and a decent guild you can get close to 30 points. Besides not everyone will play gw2 at launch ,so you have gw2 release [launch]( wich could be december 2012 for all we know ) +1 ,2 months.

Plowing through GW1 for the HoM and 'rewards' for GW2 is both a waste of time and money.

Play GW1 for the fun of GW1 - or skip it.

O_O. Tell me more about that. What's the difference between launch and release?

Not sure about the difference in semantics here, but the April 10th pre-order everyone is currently excited about only gets you into beta events. We still have no official release date for when we'll be able to play the whole game as much as and whenever we like. They keep saying they'll determine that based on how the beta goes. Worst case scenario, it could be as late as this winter. So telling people right now "GW2 is coming, don't bother with GW1" is false, since we still don't know for certain how much time we have.

the pre order for GW2 will hit the streets in 5 days allowing u to play all the betas, release is still aways off and all beta events will most likely be on weekends. im a 50/50 GWAMM and i still play helping new people and friends get their HoM and tinkinkering with squirly builds. so u have time to make substantial headway toward your HoM before release. be sure to get all 3 games and the expansion at 1 time......u will have many advantages by doing this.

Fixed it for you. There's a big difference between pre-ordering and pre-purchasing. A discussion of the topic can be found here; http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/...-2-t31280.html

They announced earlier this year that GW2 was definitely going to be released in 2012. Just saying.

ty, thanks for fixing my mis-terminology, but the game + betas on the 10th is the idea.
